Saudi Arabian companies received a significant number of contracts at the end of the World Defense Show (WDS) in Riyadh.
A key winner was defence industry conglomerate Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI), which was awarded a SAR6 billion (USD1.6 billion) package of contracts covering advanced communications systems, armoured vehicles, ammunition, and maritime systems to the Saudi Ministry of Defense (MoD). While the specifics of the contracts were not disclosed, a statement from the Saudi MoD noted that five contracts were signed in the deal, three of which were with the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) and two were with the Royal Saudi Land Forces (RSLF).
Saudi Arabia's Military Industries Corporation (MIC) also received a SAR1 billion contract from the MoD for defence services, technical and logistical support, and training for the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF).
SAMI subsidiary SAMI Defense Electronics (formerly Advanced Electronics Company [AEC]) also received a SAR250 million contract from the RSAF for the further development, technical support, and maintenance of training systems for Boeing F-15 Eagle simulators. SAMI subsidiary company Aircraft Accessories and Components Company (AACC) was awarded a contract valued at SAR400 million for supply chain services to the RSAF.
Saudi Arabia's National Company for Mechanical Systems (NCMS) also received four contracts totalling SAR100 million from the RSLF for electro-optical systems, including localisation. NCMS had a variety of remote weapons stations and electro-optical systems displayed on its stand during the show.
A number of air-defence contracts were also signed on the final day of the show, including two contracts worth SAR2 billion with Raytheon Technologies to support the capabilities of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces (RSADF), and a SAR1 billion contract with Lockheed Martin to acquire and localise radar systems for the RSADF.
