Russia announces new joint exercise in the Mediterranean Sea

The Russian Navy and the country's Aerospace Forces have launched a joint exercise in the eastern Mediterranean Sea where the UK's Carrier Strike Group (CSG) is currently located on deployment, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported on 25 June, quoting the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Taking part in the exercise, which began on 25 June, is the Black Sea Fleet's flagship, the Project 1164 Slava-class guided-missile cruiser Moskva , in addition to the Project Admiral Grigorovich-class frigates Admiral Essen and Admiral Makarov , and two Kilo-class Project 0636.3 submarines, Stary Oskol and Rostov-on-Don.

The Australian government has released two more policy documents that outline its defence development intentions over the next few years. The two documents – National Defence Strategy (NDS) 2024 and Integrated Investment Program (IIP) 2024 – were unveiled by Australia's Minister of Defence Richard Marles on 17 April.

QinetiQ has for the first time in the UK demonstrated manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) between jet aircraft.

Announced by the company on 25 April, the demonstration at the Ministry of Defence (MoD) Boscombe Down site in southern England saw a manned BAe 146 testbed aircraft provide inflight tasking to a modified unmanned Banshee Jet 80 target drone.
