Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced on 30 March that its REMUS 300 unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) has been selected by the US Navy as its next-generation small UUV (SUUV) programme of record.

HII Unmanned Systems (UxS) received a solicitation from Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) on 18 March for the procurement of multiple production lots of the SUUV, support equipment, production hardware spares, and engineering support services.

The selection follows the completion of a two-year rapid prototyping effort awarded under the Department of Defense's (DoD's) Defense Innovation Unit involving multiple tests and evaluations, including assessment by the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC).

The acquisition strategy of the SUUV programme highlights the production and testing of the REMUS 300 UUVs in its initial phase in 2023.

The next-generation SUUV programme, also known as Lionfish, is a part of the broader UUV Family of Systems (FoS) programme of record.

The REMUS 300 is a two-man portable vehicle with a diameter of 190–207 mm, an overall length of 1,900–2,500 mm, and a weight of about 45–68 kg in air depending on its configuration. It maintains a comparable diameter with the smaller REMUS 100 but offers an increased depth rating of 305 m.
