Ukraine conflict: Japan announces more sanctions on Russia

Japan has introduced additional restrictions on exports to Russia of technologies and goods that can be used by its defence industrial complex. The move is coupled with new sanctions Tokyo has placed on several military enterprises operated by Moscow.

Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) said that from 18 March sales to Russia of more than 250 high-technology products – including semiconductors, sonars, lasers, communication equipment, electromagnetic equipment, and carbon fiber materials – will not be permissible.

It said the move is aligned with newly amended Japanese export legislation.
