UK states economic case for Tempest ahead of FCAS concept phase

The industrial partners in the Tempest project have stated the financial benefits to the United Kingdom over the next 30 years, ahead of the launch of the concept phase for the wider Future Combat Air System (FCAS) in the coming days.

The Tempest – Innovation for UK Security and Prosperity report was released ahead of the anticipated launch of the Concept and Assessment phase of the programme in the coming weeks. This phase marks the transition of the project from a research and development (R&D) effort into one that will produce a real-world demonstrator platform.
Speaking on 25 May the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) author of the report and representatives from the industry team developing the fighter and its associated capabilities said that an average of 21,000 jobs will be supported by the programme from 2021–50, and that the project will be worth at least GBP26.2 billion (USD37.2 billion) to the Treasury over the same time period.
