The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) ordered seven Mission Master autonomous unmanned ground vehicles (A-UGVs) from Rheinmetall in January, the company announced in a press release on 29 April.

The MoD ordered four Mission Master SP: Surveillance A-UGVs in an intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) configuration and three Mission Master SP – Cargo vehicles for Spiral 3 of the UK's Robotic Platoon Vehicle (RPV) experimentation programme, to be delivered by the end of August, Rheinmetall said.

The order includes training, support, and spare parts, with Rheinmetall Canada as the prime contractor, supported in co-operation with Rheinmetall's Provectus robotics branch.

Previously, the UK ordered eight Mission Masters from Rheinmetall for RPV Spirals 1 and 2. Four Mission Master – Cargo A-UGVs ordered at the end of 2019 were received during the second quarter of 2020 under Spiral 1. Four Mission Master – Fire Support vehicles were ordered in February 2021 under Spiral 2 for delivery between May and August 2021.

Rheinmetall said the ISTAR module is fitted on top of an improved version of the Mission Master SP vehicle, with customer feedback and lessons learned being the main drivers for the improvements, for example a more rugged drivetrain and frame with greater access for maintenance operations. The company added that the Mission Master SP platform includes a diesel generator that can be used on extended missions.
