State-owned Indonesian shipbuilder PT PAL has received another letter of reprimand from the Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Laut, TNI-AL) given delays to the service's second purpose-built hospital ship.

A copy of the letter that was forwarded to Janes indicates that the vessel, which will be in service as KRI Dr Wahidin Soedirohusodo (991) once commissioned, is scheduled for completion on 8 December 2021.

However, as of 31 October 2021, the vessel's build progress is 3.741% behind schedule. And the main contributor to this slippage is the lack of progress in the installation of the vessel's onboard medical equipment, the reprimand letter noted.

“Given these circumstances, I hope you are aware that this is the fourth formal reprimand reminding you to hasten the progress on contract BRS W000302…”, reads the letter in reference to the contract's formal designation.

The letter has been addressed to PT PAL's main director, Kaharuddin Djenod, and it has been signed by the Indonesian Navy's Chief of Naval Procurement Service, Commodore Maman Rohman.

“As provided in various clauses of the contract, the vendor will be liable to a penalty comprising 0.1% of the total contract value for each day of delay past the contractual delivery date,” the letter added.
