UK-based company WFEL announced on 23 June that it has secured a contract to provide an undisclosed number of Dry Support Bridges (DSBs) to the Philippine Army (PA) under the ‘Horizon 2' phase of the Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program (RAFPMP).

The company said in a statement that the mobile bridging systems, which are intended for use by the PA's combat engineers, will be manufactured at WFEL's production facility in Stockport, United Kingdom, with deliveries set to begin in 2023.

The bridging systems, which can be fully deployed in about 90 minutes, will be supplied with pedestrian walkways, noted WFEL, adding that Manila opted for the DSBs to be based on a Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) 10×10 truck chassis.

An integrated logistics support package is also included in the contract, “ensuring back-up and support from WFEL's Technical Engineering Teams and giving confidence to the Combat Engineers of continued through-life support and spares availability”, said the company, adding that the PA plans to use the DSBs for both military and disaster relief operations.

“By adopting the DSB, the Philippine Army is ensuring it has the future capability to quickly manoeuvre across wet and dry gaps in complex, physical terrain, including man-made gaps, ravines, and rivers, as efficiently as possible and under the widest possible operational scenarios,” Ian Anderton, WFEL's managing director, commented.
