Indonesia's state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL has fully integrated the BAE Systems Bofors 57 Mk3 naval gun on the country's third and fourth KCR-60M-class fast attack craft (FAC), KRI Halasan (630) and KRI Kerambit (627).

The milestone was marked with a commodore inspection on 27 December. The inspection is part of a process for the Indonesian Navy to verify that the weapons, which were first fitted on the ships in April 2022, are fully functional and integrated into the vessels' combat systems. The process includes trials in the harbour and at sea.

These 57 mm guns replace the older Bofors 40 mm cannons that were installed in the primary position of both ships. These weapons were salvaged from the decommissioned landing ship tank (LST) vessel, Teluk Semangka, as an interim measure to provide both Halasan and Kerambit with gunnery capabilities.

Citing an Indonesian Navy source, Janes first reported in February 2018 that the country has selected the Bofors 57 Mk3 naval gun system for its KCR-60M vessels.

BAE Systems confirmed the selection in August 2019, announcing that the weapon system will be provided on four of the FACs in the class.

The Indonesian Navy operates four vessels in the class and three other FACs of the type are under construction. Of these, two are being built by PT PAL while the remaining one is being built by private shipbuilder PT Tesco Indomaritim.
