Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has announced a partnership with Australian defence company Daronmont Technologies to support the Australian Defence Force's (ADF's) medium-range ground-based air defence (MRGBAD) project also known as Air-6502 Phase 1.

In a press release on 14 March, IAI said that the company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Daronmont to deliver air and missile defence (AMD) capabilities to ADF under the Air-6502 project. The agreement was signed at the AVALON 2023 Australian International Airshow held from 28 February to 5 March in Victoria.

IAI said that the company will “leverage Daronmont's development and manufacturing capabilities as part of its broad Australian Industry Capability (AIC) strategy” to deliver the Barak-MX AMD system to the ADF.

Guy Bar Lev, the executive vice-president of Systems, Missiles & Space Group, IAI, said that the Barak family includes various range interceptors, and combines the capability to intercept various air-defence threats from both naval and land platforms.

Ben Norris, CEO of Daronmont Technologies, said that the deal will address the capability gap in ADF's MRGBAD if the Australian Ministry of Defence (MoD) chooses IAI to deliver capabilities under the Air-6502 project.

According to IAI, Barak MX is designed for medium- and long-range defence and integrates a command-and-control post, a radar, and launchers.

Barak MX can use short-, medium-, long-, and extended-range Barak interceptor variants to combine options that would provide a 360° engagement capability that could, with an extended-range option, reach up to 150 km and at altitudes up to 98,424 ft.
