German Navy acquires C2 maritime solution

Systematic has been contracted by the German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) to deliver SitaWare Headquarters (HQ) add-ons – Maritime and Fusion – to the German Navy, the company announced on 1 August.

The contract is part of the German Mission Network Block 2 (GMN 2) project, the company said. The intention of GMN is to integrate and harmonise command-and-control (C2) information systems and improve interoperability of national and international operations.

SitaWare Maritime and Fusion software can be added to supplement SitaWare Headquarters – a scalable C2 suite designed for the brigade/battalion level, which encompasses mission planning, situational awareness, geographic information system (GIS), tasking, and unit status capability. SitaWare Maritime is designed to support naval operations by providing commanders with a detailed Recognised Maritime Picture (RMP) using a range of information sources including sensors, automatic identification system (AIS), Over-The-Horizon Targeting Gold (OTH-G), and Link 16. SitaWare Fusion automatically correlates and fuses track information from multiple sources into a coherent operating picture.

A Systematic spokesperson told Janes the software will be installed within the German Navy's shore-based Maritime Operations Command (MOC). They were unable to comment on delivery timeframes.

The software will extend the Germany Navy's C2 capabilities by providing an RMP along with improving its operational efficiency, the company said.

SitaWare HQ is currently in use with the German Army's 10th Armoured Division's 104th Tank Battalion based in Lithuania and with the 37th Armoured Infantry Brigade. SitaWare Frontline – a C2 situational awareness tool intended for the dismounted soldier – was selected for the land component of the 2023 Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), led by the Bundeswehr.
