Norwegian marine technology solutions provider Kongsberg Maritime unveiled a new mission bay handling system for naval vessels at the DSEI 2023 exhibition in London.

According to the company, the new system enables the efficient launch and recovery of both manned and unmanned craft with a vast range of hull types and propulsion configurations from both sides of the ship. It is suitable for a wide range of naval ships and is widely scalable to fit the size of the mission bay.

Speaking to Janes , Robert Breivik, Kongsberg Maritime's senior sales manager – Naval Handling Systems, said the system has been developed to provide navies with an adaptable and flexible integration solution that can easily be transformed to meet rapidly evolving operational requirements.

“When in dialogue with navies around the world, what they talk about is flexibility, operability, modularity, [and] capability – and one of the most important things is to have a future-proof system,” he said. “So, this is the basis for what we have been developing: to have a naval platform that can be capable of launching and recovering several different assets – and if new assets become available two or three years after the vessel was put into operation, there should be no need to replace the whole handling system. It should only require a small upgrade to the handling system to enable the deployment of the new in-sea assets.”
