ADEX 2022: MODIAR and Smart Point introduce SCN-Demir ROWS

The Ministry of Defence Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan's (MODIAR's) National Aerospace Agency and private company Smart Point unveiled the SCN-Demir (Dəmir; Iron) remotely controlled stabilised weapon system during the Azerbaijan International Defence Exhibition (ADEX) in Baku.
Speaking to Janes , a Smart Point representative said that the SCN-Demir is primarily intended for operation in static positions, but can be integrated on light armoured vehicles. To date, these have included the BTR series. The representative added that the system is in service with Azerbaijan's military and has been used operationally.
The system can be armed with either a 7.62 mm PKM machine gun or a 12.7 mm NSV machine gun mounted in the centre of the system's U-shaped bracket. Up to 500 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition or 100 rounds of 12.7 mm ready-use ammunition is stowed in a large box mounted on the left side of the bracket. An optical suite for acquiring and engaging targets is mounted on the right side. The representative said that the current configuration includes day/night and thermal cameras. SCN-Demir is intended for use against ground and slow- and low-flying aerial targets.
According to the representative, the system features an automatic scanning and target detection capability that can determine if the objects it is tracking are human or otherwise, based upon movement and shape characteristics. It can also employ facial recognition software. The fire-control system includes a ballistic computer and an indicator to show how much ammunition is remaining.
