Systems engineering and sensors house SEA unveiled a new underwater situational awareness capability for sonar operations at the DSEI 2023 exhibition in London.

The new offering, named KraitOptimise, uses high-resolution environmental and ocean model data sources to provide underwater situational awareness intended to significantly improve sonar positioning and performance.

The ability of sonar to find and monitor submarines is significantly impacted by the variability of the ocean, and certain conditions degrade its performance.

According to the company, the software is able to access high-quality data that is freely available over the internet and displays it on a modern and intuitive interface while providing diagnostics to assist the operator. The software architecture is modular and flexible, enabling different data sources to be used if required.

“KraitOptimise is a mission planning and analysis tool that enables you to select a geographical region, a period of time, and then it will draw upon oceanographic data – which it can do dynamically ‘live' or it can download from various databases,” Paul Parsons, international business development director at SEA, told Janes
