Boeing Australia is progressing the development of the Airpower Teaming System (ATS), also known as the ‘Loyal Wingman' unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), it is developing in partnership with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), with two prototypes currently conducting flight test missions and a fifth one under production.
The RAAF announced that the second Loyal Wingman prototype performed its maiden flight in early November, while the first aircraft raised and engaged its landing gear for the first time during recent a flight at Woomera in South Australia. The first aircraft conducted its maiden flight in late February.
Glen Ferguson, Director Boeing Airpower Teaming System – Australia and International, said that RUAG Australia supplied the landing gear systems that were tested, while BAE Systems Australia supported the flight control and navigation systems.
