The US State Department has approved the sale of 25 M88 armoured recovery vehicles (ARVs) to Morocco, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on 3 March.
It said the ARVs would either be M88A2 Hercules or refurbished M88A1 models equipped with machine guns, GPS navigation systems, SINGARS radios, and smoke grenades. The deal also includes .50 ammunition, associated spares, support equipment, and services, bringing its estimated value up to USD239.35 million, with the BAE Systems plant in York, Pennsylvania, being the main contractor.
The 25 Hercules will be in addition to the 55 M88A1s the DSCA’s Excess Defense Articles database says had been transferred to Morocco by the end of 2016.
