Brazilian Navy inducts first H135 helicopter

03 March 2020

The Brazilian Navy formally incorporated into service the first of three Airbus Helicopters H135 light twin-engine multipurpose rotorcraft on 28 February.

The type, which is locally designated as the UH-17, replaces the remaining Airbus Helicopters AS355 F2 (UH-13) Esquilo rotorcraft of Squadron HU-1 based at São Pedro da Aldeia naval airbase.

The H135s were purchased from Helibras, a Brazilian subsidiary of Airbus Helicopters, on 20 February 2019 for EUR25.49 million (USD28.46 million). The contract by Navy Aeronautical Directorate also included training and a five-year support package.

Safran Helicopter Engines will deliver a five-year Contractor Logistics Support package (CLS) for the helicopters’ Arrius 2B2+ turboshafts according to a 22 August 2019 contract.
