Rheinmetall has announced the launch of its first Australian research and technology programme, teaming with local partners to develop a sovereign automated military vehicle capability.
Under the company’s Autonomous Combat Warrior (ACW) programme, Rheinmetall development teams from Australia, Canada and Germany will work alongside researchers from the Defence Science and Technology (DST) group, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), said Rheinmetall in a 27 February press release.
The aim is to develop advanced sovereign robotics and automated vehicle technologies that will create a local automated military vehicle capability, the company added.
