The armed forces of the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR, respectively) are preparing for a higher intensity of conflict, according to a 24 February briefing by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence (MoD) on operations of Ukrainian forces.
Colonel Dmitry Gutsulyak of the Ukrainian MoD press service stated, “According to the Intelligence Directorate General of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the command of the Russian occupying troops is increasing the preparation of [LPR and DPR] units…to intensify the fighting.”
He added that this includes the preparation of new firing positions for self-propelled artillery systems and tanks, as well as stockpiles of heavy calibre artillery ammunition.
