Pentagon budget 2021: US Army proposing procurement cuts and modernisation spending boost

The US Army is set to take a slight hit to its top line budget next year with a USD178 billion budget request, while by and large, it wants to cut its weapons system buy and funnel additional dollars into modernisation programmes.

The Trump administration delivered its fiscal year 2021 (FY 2021) budget request to Congress on 10 February and began detailing its USD741 billion national security budget request that covers the Department of Defense, as well as the Department of Energy and other agencies. For the army’s piece, the service is requesting USD2.1 billion less than the enacted budget for FY 2020 and chopping USD1 billion from its procurement coffers with a request for USD24 billion.
