Russia to spend RUB1.5 trillion on State Defence Order in 2020

13 January 2020

The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) plans to spend about RUB1.5 trillion (USD24.54 billion) on the implementation of the State Defence Order (Gosoboronzakaz-2020) this year, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu told a teleconference on 10 January. Almost 68% of this - RUB1.02 billion - is to be spent on the procurement of new series production equipment, he said.

Some 19.4% (RUB291.0 billion) of budget funds will be earmarked for equipment modernisation, repair, and maintenance, according to Shoigu. "The systems' serviceability level will be maintained at 95%," he said, adding that about 3,200 buildings would become operational this year.

"We are set to activate some 4,000 new armoured and unarmoured vehicles and 1,700 modern missile and artillery systems," said Shoigu, who added that the military will also conduct 280,000 maintenance procedures and repairs.
