Rheinmetall and Thales have agreed to work together on the future development, qualification, and production of 70 mm rocket systems for German helicopters and “potentially other new platforms”, according to a joint announcement.
The team will initially propose capabilities for the MK3 upgrade that Airbus is pursuing for its Tiger attack helicopter, the 6 January announcement says.
Rheinmetall Waffe Munition will lead the team, using its experience as a major supplier to the German military “to ensure the future requirements are met”, the announcement says. Thales will provide its technical expertise.
Thales’s 70 mm rocket system, which includes “lightweight composite launchers”, is already operational on more than 300 helicopters and other aircraft, according to the company.
