India’s Wipro to open cyber centre in Australia

Indian technology group Wipro is to establish a cyber defence centre in Melbourne, Australia, it was announced on 4 December.

The new facility, which is expected to commence operations soon, will be positioned to support sectors including defence, financial services, telecommunications, and energy. Target countries will be Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

The state government of Victoria said in a statement that Wipro, which is headquartered in Bangalore, will invest about AUD1.5 million (USD1 million) in developing the facility, which will create up to 100 jobs in the city.

Wipro already has a strong presence in Australia. The company has been operational in the country for 15 years and has about 2,000 employees based in Wipro offices and technology development centres in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Perth, and Brisbane.
