Saudi-coalition Apache helo, Wing Loong UAV downed over Yemen

02 December 2019

The Saudi Arabian-led coalition lost an attack helicopter and a medium-range long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in separate incidents over Yemen in late November.

Video posted on social media shows a Boeing AH-64 Apache helicopter gunship reportedly being shot down in the border region of Saudi Arabia and Yemen on 29 November, while the following day images posted online showed members of the Houthi-led Yemeni armed forces posing with the crashed wreckage of a Wing Loong UAV in the Hiran district of Hajjah Province.

In both instances, Houthi fighters claimed to have shot down the aircraft. In the Apache incident, the footage shows the helicopter on fire coming down to the ground from altitude, with the tail boom failing completely as it nears the end of its fall.
