Several Brazilian companies formally established a naval technologies development group on 13 November to jointly strengthen naval and maritime activities in key areas – such as development and production – throughout the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The group was launched under an agreement signed between the Brazilian Defense and Security Industry Association (ABIMDE) and the state-owned company Empresa Gerencial de Projetos Navais (EMGEPRON) on 8 October.
The founding defence companies – EMGEPRON, Nuclebras Equipamentos Pesados (NUCLEP), Amazônia Azul Tecnologias de Defesa (AMAZUL) and Condor Tecnologias Não-Letais – want to use the newly established entity to support local companies to develop new solutions, boost production to meet local and foreign demand, and create new jobs in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Niterói, Magé, Duque de Caxias, São Gonçalo, Guapimirim, and Itaboraí, and in those cities around the Bay of Sepetiba.
