Ukraine expects to increase spending on defence and security in 2020, the country's defence minister confirmed on 8 October during the first day of the Arms and Security 2019 exhibition in Kiev.
Official news agency Ukrinform quoted Minister of Defence Andriy Zahorodniuk as saying that "everyone will be satisfied with the result". He denied earlier media reports that the budget would be cut in 2020.
Finance Minister Oksana Markarova presented the draft 2020 government budget to the Ukrainian Parliament on 20 September. Proposed funding of UAH245 billion (USD9.89 billion) for defence and security marks a 16% increase compared with 2019, and represents 21% of overall planned government expenditure for 2020.
