Singapore and the US has extended a 1990 memorandum of understanding (MOU) that allows US military forces access to the former’s naval and air bases.

The MOU, which also provides logistics support for transiting US military personnel, aircraft, and naval vessels in the republic, was extended in an amendment signed by Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and US President Donald Trump on 23 September. The extension is for another 15 years.

Under the MOU, the US Navy (USN) has rotationally deployed its littoral combat ships and P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) to Singapore since 2013 and 2015 respectively.
