Plasan presented an array of statistical and passive armour at the 2019 Defence and Security Equipment International exhibition (DSEI 2019) in London from 10–13 September.
Dani Ziv, Plasan’s CEO, told Jane’s that Plasan’s approach is to provide multiple armour types and solutions “all under one design roof”. The company’s Hybrid SlatFence (HSF) and Kinetic Energy (KE) armours had both reached Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 9 for Australia’s Hawkei and Romania’s Piranha 5 infantry fighting vehicles, respectively.
The HSF is a form of statistical armour designed to protect a vehicle from RPG-7s and SPG-9s, Ziv explained The systems weighs 7 kg/m2, which is about 20% lighter than conventional steel bar armour.
