Hensoldt is in the process of acquiring a South African radar company to broaden its portfolio of capabilities in the country, CEO Thomas Müller told Jane's on 10 September during the 2019 Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI 2019) exhibition in London.
He declined to name the company being acquired and did not divulge any further details of the deal.
In early September, Hensoldt combined two of its South African businesses (Hensoldt Optronics and GEW Technologies) into Hensoldt South Africa. GEW produces systems for communications monitoring, direction finding, communication countermeasures, spectrum management, perimeter security, and force protection. Hensoldt Optronics specialises in electro-optical and infrared systems. "Now we are going to further invest in South Africa by acquiring a company in the radar area," Müller said.
