Canada orders ship-to-shore connectors

10 September 2019

Montreal-based shipyard Navamar Inc has been awarded a CAN12 million (USD9 million) contract to build five ship-to-shore connector systems for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN).

Awarded after a competitive process as part of the overall Joint Support Ship project budget, the modular and configurable connectors are intended to facilitate the transfer of cargo and equipment from ship to shore.

The systems will be able to support a variety of missions. Examples include a temporary jetty anchored to the shoreline, as a large barge to assist in ship maintenance and repair, or to perform evacuation operations.

Of the five ship-to-shore connector systems being acquired, four will be embarked on board the RCN's two new Joint Support Ships.
