The pioneering crew of an 84 m OCEA-built offshore patrol vessel (OPV) destined for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have arrived in France to undergo a two-month familiarisation training programme onboard the vessel.
The OPV, which will be in service as BRP Gabriela Silang (8301) once commissioned, is scheduled to be handed over to the service by the end of 2019. The vessel took to the water in July 2019.
Gabriela Silang is the fifth and final vessel in a EUR90 million (USD99 million) contract awarded by the Philippine Department of Transportation. The contract included four 24 m FPB 72 Mk II patrol boats, which have since been delivered and commissioned as BRP Boracay , BRP Panglao , BRP Malamawi , and BRP Kalanggaman respectively.
