Vietnam's newest defence company - Viettel High Technology Industries Corporation (VHT) - has disclosed the scope of capabilities that it intends to offer the Vietnamese armed forces and, increasingly, for export over the coming few years.
VHT was established in May 2019 as the primary defence subsidiary under the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group, which is owned by Vietnam's Ministry of Defence. On launching the company, Viettel said it would lead the group's development of modern military technologies for domestic and international sales.
Viettel is primarily a commercial telecommunications group but has been involved in developing military systems since its establishment in the early 2000s.
