Bulgarian Defence Minister Krasimir Karakachanov signed four international agreements totalling nearly USD1.3 billion on 11 July for the US Foreign Military Sale (FMS) procurement of eight F-16 Block 70 fighters – six single-seat and two twin-seat aircraft – for the Voennovozdushni Sili (Bulgarian Air Force, VVS), the Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on its website the day after Council of Ministers’ approval on 10 July.

The four agreements are for the acquisition of the F-16s and associated support; AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder air-to-air missiles, associated materiel and services; other munitions for the F-16; and five Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio Systems (MIDS JTRS) and related support and equipment.
