Raytheon has announced on 17 June its intention to incorporate a warfighter-machine interface (WMI) into Post Deployment Build-8 (PDB 8.1), an upcoming software upgrade for the Patriot air and missile defence system.
The WMI is a new command and control (C2) technology that aims to provide operators a simplified view of complex defence system data. The interface features 3D visuals, easy-to-read status pages and search functions, and is designed to replace pixelated shapes and complex directory systems. For example, it will enable specialists to perform search tasks using a drop-down menu instead of having to memorise where different types of information are stored.
