Peru and China sign new agreement for military donations

26 June 2019

The ministries of defence of Peru and the People’s Republic of China have signed a co-operation agreement under which Beijing will donate USD7 million worth of military equipment to Lima.

On 7 June, the late Peruvian defence minister José Huerta Torres (who died on 24 June) and the deputy chief of the Joint Staff Department of China's Central Military Commission, Lieutenant General Shao Yuanming, signed the agreement. The equipment is expected to arrive in the South American nation in 2020, but what the delivery consists of has not been disclosed.

This will be the second major donation of military technology between China and Peru within a span of two years.
