Paris Air Show 2019: French SDT Patroller tactical UAV begins qualification flights

The Direction Générale de l'Armement (DGA), the French defence procurement agency, began the final phase of industrial qualification flights of the Safran Electronics & Defense Système de Drones Tactiques (SDT) Patroller tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from the DGA's flight testing centre in Istres, southern France, on 13 June, the agency and Safran announced on their websites on 17 June.

Conducted together with industry, the flights aim to demonstrate the performance of the system - especially its electro-optical turret - in view of its certification, according to the DGA. The agency said the Patroller would be one of the first UAVs to meet NATO airworthiness certification requirements. Safran specified that the Patroller would be certified under NATO Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 4671.
