US Navy performing VH-92A landing zone testing

13 June 2019

The US Navy (USN) is performing testing with the Sikorsky VH-92A presidential helicopter to determine if aircraft modifications are required to enable the aircraft to land without damaging the landing zone.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) said in an April 2019 report that the programme had not yet met a key system capability requirement for landing the aircraft without damaging a landing zone such as the White House South Lawn. The USN announced on 10 June that it awarded Sikorsky its first production contract for the Presidential Helicopter Replacement Program - a USD542 million low-rate initial production (LRIP) deal for six aircraft.
