A programme office to lead the UK Royal Marines Future Commando Force transformation drive is to be set up inside the Navy Command Headquarters in Portsmouth.
The move was announced to Royal Marines personnel on 10 June by the corps head, Major General Charlie Strickland, who described Future Commando Force as “one of the UK naval service’s major transformation programmes”.
Maj Gen Strickland said that standing up a land littoral strike division programme office, would give the “staff and intellectual horsepower to drive forward this generational change”. He also revealed that Future Commando Force would soon be formally designated as a Ministry of Defence programme and that he would be its first senior responsible officer, making him accountable to the ministry, Treasury (finance ministry), and parliament for its successful delivery.
