USCG deploys second cutter to the Western Pacific

11 June 2019

The US Coast Guard (USCG) Legend-class National Security Cutter (NSC) Stratton (WMSL 752) is scheduled to depart on 12 June from its homeport in Alameda, California, for a Western Pacific deployment, where the ship will join the Legend-class Bertholf (WMSL 750), another USCG NSC deployed to the region.

Bertholf deployed to the region in January 2019. Both ships support US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), which oversees military operations in the region. The vessels operate directly under the tactical command and control of the US Seventh Fleet commander.

Unlike the US Navy (USN), the USCG is also a federal law-enforcement agency, providing INDOPACOM and other combatant commanders that added operational capability.
