Vietnam and Italy have outlined an intention to expand military technology ties - including potential naval shipbuilding activity - as part of a deeper bilateral defence relationship.
The Ministry of National Defence (MND) said in a statement on 6 June that the two countries intended to look into areas of potential collaboration. The statement followed meetings in Hanoi between Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuan Phúc and his visiting counterpart Giuseppe Conte.
The MND said that through a newly established Vietnam-Italy defence policy dialogue, the two sides had expressed an intention to promote defence co-operation in areas including military research and development, and the transferring of technologies from Italy to Vietnam.
