Italian defence and aeronautics manufacturer Leonardo announced its first quarter results on 8 May, showing a strong start to its 2019 financial year.
Revenues generated in the period rose to EUR2,725 million (USD3,053 million), a year- on-year increase of 11.2%, while the company's earnings before interest, tax, and amortisation (EBITA) were up 6.5% at EUR163 million.
The most significant contributor to Leonardo's improved first quarter performance was its Defence Electronics and Security division, whose first quarter revenues of EUR1,329 were 15.7% higher than the same period in 2018. Within this business it was primarily higher levels of activity in Leonardo DRS and Electronics, which drove the quarter's increased sales.
