Airbus considering legal action against Germany over Saudi ban

Airbus is considering the legal options it could take against the German government as a result of the financial implications laid on the company resulting from a government decision to halt arms shipments to Saudi Arabia.

Germany took a hardline stance against the Middle Eastern nation following the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018 – an event that was reportedly at the hands of the Saudi government – resulting in it barring nearly all defence sales to the country, something that has had implications for ongoing programmes involving German industry.

Airbus is now in dialogue with the German government regarding outstanding defence export licences and the subsequent impact this is having on the company, Dirk Hoke, CEO of Airbus Defence & Space, said in a statement to Jane’s.
