A pair of Leonardo AW159 Lynx Wildcat Mk220 naval helicopters ordered for the Philippine Navy's Naval Air Wing (NAW) has arrived in-country.
The aircraft were transported on board an Antonov An-124 transport aircraft and arrived in Manila on 7 May. An official from the Philippine Navy has confirmed with Jane's that the AW159s will eventually serve with the NAW's Squadron MH-40 at the Danielo Atienza Air Base, and will be commissioned in an 'activation and blessing' ceremony on 27 May, in line with the service's 121st anniversary.
The Philippine's Department of National Defense announced in 2016 that it had selected the Lynx Wildcat for the country's two-airframe PHP5.4 billion (USD101 million) Anti-Submarine Helicopter Acquisition Project.
