With three deployments of F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighters aboard US Navy large-deck amphibious assault ships under their belt, US Marine Corps (USMC) leaders are examining ways to better employ the aircraft from the vessels.
During a 6 May panel at Navy League 2019, USMC Commandant General Robert Neller fielded questions about service efforts to prepare for a great power conflict, as well as the Lightning carrier concept under which F-35B aircraft are deployed on amphibious assault ships.
"[What] we're working on is a number of concepts on how we can increase the capability as for how they're employed," Gen Neller told the audience.
