The recent two-aircraft carrier buy for a duo of Ford-class ships will still allow for technology insertion during construction, said Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) CEO Michael Petters.
“The beauty of the two-ship contract is that we’re going to be able to work our way through that kind of in a hybrid mode where we’re going to be allowed to mature technology in parallel with the construction,” Petters said on 2 May during a quarterly earnings conference call with analysts.
“If is the technology is mature enough to insert it into a construction phase, we will,” he said. “If it’s not mature enough, then we won’t.”
