Israel's deployment of Iron Dome air defence systems on the Golan Heights is a violation of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement, Syria has claimed.

The agreement formalised the ceasefire that ended the October 1973 war and left Israel in control of the territory.

"[Israel] has continued to commit numerous violations, contraventions, and other breaches of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement," Syria's ambassador to the UN said in a letter to the UN secretary-general and the president of the UN Security Council that was made public on 2 May.

"It has deployed weapons, heavy equipment, and advanced systems. Two Iron Dome air defence systems are in place within the 10 km zone, and missile carriers have been installed within the 25 km zone."
