The Portuguese Army will have 126 of its future VAMTAC ST5 (Vehículo de Alta Movilidad Táctico) 4×4 light tactical multi-purpose protected vehicles equipped with Rheinmetall's 40 mm Rapid Obscurant System-Land (ROSY-L). The systems were purchased via the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) and are set for delivery between April 2019 and March 2020.
Each VAMTAC ST5 for Portugal will receive three launchers and the manual control unit (MCU). One launcher will be positioned at the front and two on each side. Each launcher can be loaded with two magazines, and each magazine can carry five grenades.
The ROSY-L systems will be installed to 107 base vehicles, 7 command post vehicles, and 12 special operation vehicles for the Commandos Battalion, 1st and 2nd Parachute Infantry Battalion, and the Special Operations Force of the Rapid Projection Brigade (BrigRR). The BrigRR also will receive 13 VAMTAC ST5 ambulances but these will not include ROSY-L system.
