The US Navy (USN) is looking to equip the Northrop Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft with beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) networking and GPS-protection capabilities for operating in an electronic attack (EA) environment.
The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) announced on 24 April that it intends to award Northrop Grumman a sole-source contract to incorporate BLOS Tactical Targeting Network Technology (TTNT) and Navigation Warfare (NAVWAR) engineering change proposals (ECPs) into full-rate Production (FRP) Lots 7-11 E-2D aircraft.
TTNT integrates Advanced Tactical Data Link (ATDL) functionality into the E-2D, and includes replacing the Multifunctional Information Distribution System – Low Volume Terminal (MIDS LVT) radio with MIDS/JTRS that has incorporated Link-16 concurrent multi-netting (CMN-4) and TTNT.
