RAF Northolt ceases fixed-wing ops for runway renovation

17 April 2019

Fixed-wing operations at Royal Air Force (RAF) Northolt to the west of London have ceased for six months to enable renovation work on the main runway.

The four BAe 146 aircraft of 32 (The Royal) Squadron have been relocated to RAF Benson in Oxfordshire to continue transporting VIPs and high-value cargoes at short notice.

The main runway closed earlier this month to enable upgrades, drainage improvements, and installation of a new arrestor bed. Non-flying units will remain at the site during the construction work, and 32 Squadron’s sole AgustaWestland AW109SP GrandNew helicopter will continue to operate from the site.
