The Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF) has deployed a new, locally developed phased-array radar designed to help aircraft land safely in adverse conditions, including bad weather or when dealing with faulty instrumentation.
The Precision Approach Radar (PAR), which was successfully developed in 2015, recently entered service with the RoKAF’s 1st Fighter Wing at Gwangju Air Base and is expected to be gradually deployed at other air bases by 2023, South Korea’s Defence Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA) said in a 15 April statement.
The South Korean government and local defence company LIG Nex1 jointly invested KRW20 billion (USD17.6 million) in the PAR project in November 2012, according to the Yonhap News Agency.
